CCS at Summit Point

April 11-12, 1998
Saturday's Results -- Sunday's Results

Unheard of weather during April came to Summit Point as a welcomed Easter present. Cold, wet weather is typical for this time of year, but instead racers were treated to crystal blue skies, light winds, and temperatures in the 70s. Although the track was not perfect, the racing nearly was. The GT events on Sunday were close events, with few stoppages, and tight competition.

But the talk of the paddock was the introduction of Jeff Atwell's and Bryan Bemisderfer's brand new Yamaha YZF-R1s. These much anticipated machines have been the talk of the motorcycle press, and they lived up to their expectations. Both bikes raced in sportbike trim, yet were at the front of the pack of every race entered. Bemisderfer could be identified during practice not only by his number plates, but by the monster wheelies from the exit of Turn 10 all the way to pit out.

YZF-R1 Bryan Bemisderfer (198) takes his Yamaha R1 to the top of the podium with his win in the Unlimited SportBike event. Bemisderfer's near stock R1 had times in the 1:18s during the weekend.
Pack in Turn 1 Kenneth Lovett (817) protects the inside in Turn 1 during the Expert GT2 on Saturday.
Race school exercises The MARRC Road Racing School conducts exercies on the skidpad Saturday morning.
CCS announcer The CCS announcer, Mike Fitzgerald, calls the leaders by the start-finish line from the tower on Saturday.
